Gardening with nature in mind

The Wildside mission is to design, build and manage green, brown and grey spaces with benefits to wildlife as a primary focus

“THE AVERAGE SIZE OF WILDLIFE POPULATIONS HAS FALLEN BY A STAGGERING 73%” - LIVING PLANET REPORT 2024

If you build it they will come

The effect that habitat creation can have on a space can be life changing both for wildlife and how you engage with it

Pond - Within a year toads, frogs, newts, dragonflies, damselflies, diving beetles and water boatmen can arrive

Bird Box - Species such as house sparrows, wrens, blackbirds, swallows, swifts and great tits can be encouraged to nest

Compost bins/bay - The best way to improve your soil, adding to the mind-blowing complexity and quantity of microorganisms and creatures responsible for breaking down organic matter

Each of these wildlife friendly features will help add to the wider local biosphere and if combined this biomass increase can be exponential

“23% of Greater London is private, domestic garden land. 14% of this is estimated to be vegetated garden green space” (Greenspace Information for Greater London CIC)

There is so much potential in urban environments to create a safer home for wildlife but with the popularity of paving over gardens or covering it with fake plastic grass this land is becoming increasingly hostile for nature

If you have a space that you don’t know what to do with but can see its potential, think of the wildlife you would like to attract, what you would like the space to do for you and finally what budget you have then get in touch to see what can be achieved

- Ralph Waldo Emerson
